Roxbury Russet

We have two trees out behind the chicken coop, and while the apples don’t look like much, they are certainly the best balance between taste and prolific produciton.

Rusetting refers to the rust coloured, rough textured, tissue on the outside on the apple.

Dating back to 1649, the Roxbury Russet is a sweet apple that was very popular in its day. It is now primarily used for cider making.

Russets in general have fallen out of favour due to their surface texture and colouring.
