Cost of Chickens

Keeping chickens has proven to be significantly more expensive than anticipated. If you go to the grocery store, and look at the egss, you will find you pay about $3/dozen eggs (2011-08); keeping chickens and doing it ourselves, it costs us $2… per egg! We are hoping that over time, as we get better at this, some of these costs go down, but so far it definitely is not even remotely competitive.
