The Canadian Mint is looking to get into the digital currency business. I have mixed feelings about this. First thought: cool! and I am submitting stuff for the development contest. After that, I find it worrying. The main feature about digital currencies that I dislike, is the inability to pay cash. The mint seems to have solved this by using SD cards as carriable cash (see Batman Forever cartoon for usage details). Finally, I have concerns about the trackability of this currency, it appears to use central clearing accounts (though I haven't looked at it closely yet). That's a little big brotherish for me.

So, I dislike fiat currency, like cool technology, and dislike trackable digital currencies. I may have to get over it... the technology exists, this is just a promotion.
