So a little while ago, I stated that imperial is an elegant measurement system. I have given it more thought and have decided that Metric is also an elegant system. While Imperial is very good at what it does, metric is highly successful where conversion of units is necessary.

While I find inches a convenient unit of measure when I am doing carpentry (it is more conveniently divisible than cm); I recently found metric very convenient when determining the load capacity of some shelves my wife was using for canning. I was easily able to convert the metric volume of the jars (primarily filled with water) to a mass in grams which wasn't convenient so I bumped it up to kilograms, which told me that the shelves would not perform as implied by the salesman...

Both have their place, use whichever is more applicable.
