I have wanted to start a rabbitry for some time now. I think rabbits are an excellent form of live stock for anyone. The key benefit in my mind is the ability to tailor production to demand... basically between their quick rate of reproduction and the fact that they come meal sized, you never have to produce more animals than you can eat in a couple of weeks.

I mentioned this to a couple of people over the last year and a few of them mentioned that if you only eat rabbit, you will starve. There is a very small nugget of truth to this myth, referring to a condition known as "Rabbit Starvation" that can only occurs under famine conditions.

The truth of it is:
1. If you only eat meat (of any kind) you will starve. Humans are omnivorous, eat your vegetables
2. Vegetarians are able to sustain themselves on no meat at all. Therefore, a substandard meat would be sufficient. Having said that, rabbit meat is not substandard.

Really the condition is a lack of fat in your diet that can occur under famine conditions (see the link).
