Kind of a regional question: in a professional position, how long is an appropriate amount of notice to give to an employer? (what region are you in)
I recently changed positions and regions, and had a bit of a culture shock. Hiring employers, in my new region, seem to expect 2 weeks notice to be sufficient, while 2 months notice was the norm for the old region I was in.
Edit:
I was referring to an expectation of how much notice you need before you start. When a company asks me to start on a particular day, they are dictating how much notice I may give to my prior employer. I have responsibilities with that employer that need to be transferred to someone else. Employers in the prior region had an expectation of 2 months to close out those responsibilities, employers in the current region have an expectation of 2 weeks from the moment they contact you.
The Wife points out that I'm really asking: are there companies out there that have planned "months" in advance rather than "days"?
