Not as interesting as it originally sounds.

The key finding was that most men gave themselves at least one shock, I would be more interested in how many gave themselves a second shock. Until I have experienced the sensation, I have no sense of cost, and am highly likely to want to experience the shock without being bored.

(demonstrated in an informal experiment at The Wife's office involving an electric bug zapper)

Interesting finding - but don't make too much of the one guy who shocked himself 190 times. Shocks are not the same for everyone. Old school electricians are famous for touching a bus bar to see if it was hot. (Don't try this at home - they may have been willing to do this, but they also knew to make sure they weren't grounded first. That can be the difference between life and death. They also didn't do this for higher voltages.)

I was thinking of the curiosity factor. I'm likely to take the first shock, just to find out what it feels like, and that before the experiment even starts.

Even that curiosity factor is probably more inherent to men than to women - at least in the physical realm.

As for myself - I regularly think by myself for hours at a time, so I don't really "get" it personally - but I have witnessed this sort of behavior often enough to find it believable.

Interestingly, the experiment I was involved in demonstrated just that. Basically, a woman at my wife's office brought an electric fly swatter. My observation was that the women stood around (slack-jawed) watching the men get in line to touch it... repeatedly (and it did hurt ;).
