I was very surprised by his states of "Obligation" and "Shame". When operating from "Responsibility" I sometimes use the phrases from the obligation and shame states he describes. Now I have to wonder, am am I always operating from a "Responsibility" mindset when using those phrases; and even if I am operating from a Responsibility mindset, should I allow myself to use that type of language (in case I change that mindset).

What we have learned over the last couple of decades of working with smart, ambitious, and successful people is that professionals tend to hang out in Shame and Obligation as that is what we were programmed (conditioned by well-intended parents and teachers) to do.
