In an effort to cut wait times, hospitals in the UK have decided to just not treat people.

I'm a little horrified at their reasoning, they are stating that because a person is a burden on society, they will not bother treating them. They will leave treatment for those who are better able to contribute, and are less of a burden.

The sadest part is that they haven't even bothered to hide it. They could have chosen to say it was because smokers and obese individuals have higher risks, but that isn't what was said. Instead they stated it was an effort to treat less people (reduce wait times), which means they are not expecting smokers to quit, or the obese to lose weight, they are expecting people to do without treatement.
