Condos are for rich chumps. Buy in plus rent is the biggest rip off. I hope Halifax can stave off that conversion as long as possible.

Actually the point is that more people are renting. This article has nothing to do with condos.

No I understand, but the tendency of rental property owners to push out low rental customers in favour of condo fees, has hit Winnipeg hard, so I hope Halifax doesn't see that happen for a long time.

Also helps curb urban sprawl.

Why can't people happily rent or buy old houses instead of insisting on buying something new? If I ended up on my own, I'd ditch the never ending maintenance for a place I'm not permanently tied to.

+Caroline Lobban Most houses in Halifax are "old houses" (especially downtown), and that means a lot of repairs. The Wife and I have been renting for 2 years now, and are wondering why we ever bothered owning. It's less time consuming, cheaper, and easier.

Interestingly, we did rent a house for a while (happy renters, but stilll part of the urban sprawl)
