That accounts for almost 25%, the other 18% of that is mandatory deductions by my employer.
Regardless of where its going, its a big chunk that I do not have any control over. That stings.

, the taxable parking "benefit" and union dues deductions make me weep. Provincial civil servants are not paid the big bucks here.

That actually makes me think about some interesting tax savings potential for governments:
By making the "benefits" optional you could reduce the pay necessary to government employees by a significant chunk.
An employee with costs of $20K/year needs to be paid $40K. You could change that to $30K by handling the benefits better. (My numbers are completely made up)
