It took me 3 years to train myself not to avert my eyes, and another 2 to not feel embarrased.
For the first time in 25 years, I have averted my eyes during a public display of affection.
I'm ashamed of myself.

I fear I'm becoming domesticated.

I'll add, when I was young I determined that a life without shame would be easier. So I started intentionally desensitizing myself to things that are culturally "shameful" or "awkward" to display:
Public displays of:
* Affection
* Grief
* Onus
* Anger
I should be in the presence of one of these and be staring it straight in the face without blushing.
Today I blushed and averted my eyes.
