I just got back from a holiday in PEI. The Wife and I were dabbling our toes in the water at one of the more remote beaches. We both struck by how clear and warm the water was, and were debating whether or not we wanted to swim out past the kelp and sea grass.

An eco-cycling tour pulled in, and one of the fellows made his way to the beach. After feeling the water with his toes, he looked out, shook his head, and disgustedly pointed to the weeds, "Scuzzy water, full of allergy ".

The Wife opened her mouth to say something... then just looked at me flabbergasted, and mouthed "algae?". I just shook my head at her, and suggested it was time for us to leave.

Not one other member of the tour bothered to aproach the water.

Some days, I weep for humanity.
