Was doing a bit of reading about Canada, conscription, and WWI.

To paraphrase my understanding of something that happened:

After the Federal Government declared conscription, and Quebec quelled its riots, the Supreme Court of Alberta declared that it was illegal to take people without them seeing a judge.

The Army scoffed and informed the Alberta Government that the men would be taken, Alberta Sheriffs scoffed and informed the Army that this would be treated as kidnapping. Guns were drawn.

After a couple of standoffs, The Army and the The Sheriffs negotiated a truce in order to prevent a Civil War.

I went to school in Alberta... they didn't cover that in Social Studies.
