I recently saw a job posted that stated "No Smokers Accepted". I know a little about the company and their concern is regarding the number of breaks taken by smokers.
Interestingly, smoking follows the pattern you just mentioned: about once every 1.5 hours, smokers walk away from their desk for one cigarette's worth of time (~5-8 minutes).
Not that I'm recommending smoking.
But it is remarkable that smokers had an excuse for informal chats every so many minutes during the day, with a change of location, situation, etc.
