Originally shared by Christian GruberGod it was so painful to listen to the Zuckerberg Senate hearings. The senators were so ignorant of the subject matter that they didn't understand how incoherent their questions even were.
Me: "I'm sorry senator, I'm having trouble working out how to answer that question, as it is incoherent in it's basic formation. You've used English words, but you've strung them together in a way that doesn't amount to a meaningful sentence. Nothing you're asking has an answer as you've asked it, as I think you've fundamentally misunderstood the nature and meaning of the technology we are discussing. You keep using analogies that don't track with what's actually going on, and are asking questions that make no sense. Could you please get your interns to give you a crash course in how this thing you want to regulate works, so you can be meaningfully informed, and so that your questions can improve your understanding and not just deepen your misapprehensions? Perhaps I could schedule another hearing in a week's time. If you like I can have some of my engineers do a short preparatory course."
Or something.
And that senator that talked about his grandkid who is all about the Instagram and who would be upset if he didn't mention them... Who the living fuck cares, on taxpayers' dollars, about your grandparental vanity. Do your damned job, sir.
Ugh. I hated that I made myself listen. I'm no fan of the Zuckerberg, but that whole exercise just made me sick to my stomach.
