Gaurdian Comment of the day:

Gehirnfurz:

You can't win the 'culture war' from your current identity-politics obsessed position. You just can't. Because the default stance for most people is they want to be left the fuck alone, not cast into schismatic arbitrary groups and they're more likely to get this hands-off approach from 'the right' than they are from the increasingly hectoring and unreasonable left.

That's top of the bill. A close second is people simply don't want more mass immigration. Continent-wide. A perfectly valid position for all manner of logical reasons. If you're going to go against that, arguing that it's always partly xenophobic in nature, then you have no chance. None. Problem is this insistence on promoting mass immigration has become so obstinate a point of principle that I doubt you're going to find the courage to admit that you might have it wrong or to change tack. It's been pointed out time and time again that the currently argued for policy is completely illogical given the left's normal bĂȘtes noires (with respect to various -isms and -ists) so it's hard to see any kind of shift forthcoming.

If you want to go back to the old ways when the left knew that what was important was improving the economic standing, access and opportunity within society, then people will be all ears but they're not going to listen if that stuff comes bottom of the list behind all matter of wacky, niche, identity politics shit - the kind of luxurious, overemotional histrionic bollocks which is only available to a certain sheltered, relatively comfortable subset of the population who are the only people who similarly think it reasonable. 'The bottom' is where your focus ought to be.

Vin Diacola:

Exactly.

This Identity Politics bollocks is like seeing the man at the top take 30 biscuits from a plate - and then watching the Left agonise over whether the BAME folk and LGTBQ folk are getting their fair share of the 5 biscuits that remain.
